We created “Told Myself to Stop Drinking. But I'm Not Gonna Listen to an Alcoholic” in May 2025. From the start, it felt like the kind of FRASED shirt, we love: easy to style, easy to recognise yourself in, and the kind of design that make you look twice.
We wanted a shirt that paired the self-aware humour with today's drinking culture. At first, it sounds like someone making a sensible promise. The second half immediately undoes it. It is self irony at its best, and that is precisely why this shirt works so well.
Why this design felt right
“Told myself to stop drinking” sets up an ordinary inner conversation. “But I'm not gonna listen to an alcoholic” turns the speaker into the person they are refusing to take advice from. The contradiction is the punchline. You get the joke in a second, then realise you have just read a whole little story on someone's back.
It is made for the settings where a shirt like this starts the conversation: a dinner, a night out, a holiday, or a casual day with friends. The humour is deliberately exaggerated yet always appreciated when being worn.
A simple layout with a lot behind it

Our archived green and white artwork exports show 28 May 2025 timestamps.
The finished graphic looks simple. Getting it to read well on someone's back took care. We considered the font, the weight of the letters, the spacing between individual characters, and the space between the lines. It had to land from a distance and still reward a closer look.
When we design for FRASED, we talk a lot about the balance of a quote. Here, TOLD MYSELF TO STOP DRINKING catches your eye first. The smaller BUT I'M NOT GONNA LISTEN TO AN ALCOHOLIC supplies the twist. A small FRASED mark sits above it, with #NEVERSOBER beneath. Each part has its own role, but they have to read as one thought.
The white tee uses deep green for the entire design - a color often used in relation to alcohol. On the black tee, white lettering carries the same composition. That contrast lets the typography do the work.
From our design files to someone’s wardrobe
Our archived exports for this design show 28 May 2025 timestamps. The FRASED tee was created in Shopify on 6 June 2025, and the order shown below was placed on 23 June 2025. Together, those records give our artwork and product a traceable early timeline.
They document that this design was made entirely by FRASED.

We have kept the design files and commerce records in our archive. They are part of the story of how this particular FRASED graphic went from an idea on a screen to a piece someone chose to wear.
Then people made it their own
A photograph of someone in the shirt says something a product image cannot. You can see where it ends up, what they wear it with, and how the words become part of a real moment. In the Story below, a customer tagged FRASED while wearing the tee at a bar. The setting almost writes the caption for us.

We love that the tee works in more than one version. The white shirt lets the green line stand out; the black shirt gives the lettering a sharper, quieter contrast. Worn by FRASED models side by side, the layout still looks unmistakably like the same design.

When the 'fake copies' started appearing
As more and more people loved the design, we began seeing merchants like ALIEXPRESS & SHEIN copying our famous “Told myself to stop drinking” design. Also small shops in the space such as NOFLTRS.com or etsy merchants offer copies of the FRASED design — mind you, those are not FRASED products.
The FRASED piece has its own design history: the typography, spacing, colour and composition shown in our dated artwork and early order records above. Seeing the same words on another shirt does not, by itself, tell you who designed its graphic. If you want the original version we created, get it directly from our store.
Still one of our favourites
A graphic tee can make a simple outfit feel more personal. This one has the quick, slightly reckless humour we love, but the design itself stays clean. Wear it your own way and let the words do the talking.
We made it because we had a personal relation to the nightlife and it made us stand out. Already being able to picture ourselves in it made this a easy choice to bring to the brand. And seeing how many people actually wear it is always the best part.
Told myself to stop drinking. But I'm not gonna listen to an alcoholic. We still think it says exactly what it needs to.
